Tiakina te Pā Harakeke is a collection of essays by Māori researchers exploring how ancestral knowledge and kaupapa Māori childrearing practices support tamariki wellbeing, using harakeke as a living metaphor for whānau structure and connection across generations.
Creative thinking
It was a privilege to work on this book and bring to life a physical form of this knowledge for the audience to use as a resource. The tone is soft, natural, feminine and balances a contemporary feel while staying grounded in its whakapapa (lineage) and holding its weight as an academic publication.
Creative doing
Colour, typography and layout were chosen with care to help build a design system that could hold many contributors together as one coherent publication, giving each essay room to read as its own piece.
